Well I finished restoring my Union cash register today. I think it came out pretty good. It works with a few exceptions. I don't have keys for so you can't reset or read the totals & the drawer needs help opening although it is in great condition. It has no roll so it's just wood on wood. I may try just putting a little grease on the bottom. The cabinet has some pretty bad stains but I stained & clear coted it. The top must have had a fence on it because it had holes but no fence. I had some spindles from an old lamp that I put on it. I like it.

Looks good, Unions are nice looking registers. Maybe over the years the base was replaced and the rollers were removed and never reinstalled

I do my best thinking when I'm asleep. I guess I was thinking about the drawer not working smoothly & I remembered that when I took the bottom off it had thick paper shims around the frame. They all broke up & I didn't put them back. I took the base off of mine & it doesn't have rollers. I cut new shims out of a thin sheet of cork & glued it on & put the base back on. It now works great but I wonder how good it would do with a lot of money in it?? You can't remove the drawer without taking the base off. My serial number is 1284. Do you know if this model came first or if the cup model???

It had a large 93 on the side of the frame,I think that’s the year it was made.

From the serial #'s I would think that the "tree model" came first & they revised it to the cup model. I had a crank model years ago that sort of looked like a 400 but the mechanical parts were really rusted out. The key stems were rusted off but the brass cabinet were there. Jimmy had one that needed cabinet parts so I traded it to him. I'll try to find a picture??
