Last spring I bought a small 9" wide Continental Cash Register from a fellow in a western state. Fellow wouldn't ship it because it always resulted in issues, so he took it to FED EX for them to pack and ship and I paid FED EX. Register was packed in a 24 x 24 x 24 inch box because they require 3" of bubbly wrap around the entire machine and and the register was 16" tall and the closest box would be the 24 x 24 x 24. Rest would be filled with packing peanuts. Register arrived with one layer of bubble wrap, laying on it's side, and with no packing peanuts, but brown paper. They charged me for a 24 x 24 x 15 inch box of air space. Needless to say, I bitched and bitched until my money was refunded for packing and shipping.

Today I received a small 9" wide Peninsular Cash Register from Michigan. Best packing job of any register ever sent to me. Box was 21 x 21 x 15 inches. Inside the box there were Styrofoam strips separating the outer box from the inside box which would cushion any blow or damage to the outside box. Register was wrapped in a cushioned packing paper. Laid on it's side, but first here was bubble wrap on the bottom and packing peanuts. Top sign, drawer front, and lid were removed and packed in separate packing bags. It was a wonderful experience to see certain simple jobs like properly packing a cash register so it can be sent without damage can still be done in today's world.

I have attached some photo's of today's package so new register guy's can see the proper way to pack and ship a register. Not that difficult if one has some common sense. The big box was used to ship my 9" Continental, which clearly shows the overkill, and over charge.

I assume that FedEx did not pack the second one?
