Here are two pictures of my favorite register. It is a model 5 from my hometown of Terre Haute, IN. It comes out of a dentist office, Dr. Cheek. This register has a special ring up. If you press down on the $10 and $20 keys it will ring up $30. Pretty neat. Notice the picture of the indicators. Thanks Bill for letting this register to come home.

In my opinion, it is almost impossible for a collector to have just one favorite brass cash register, that is why we all have dozens and dozens of machines. Very difficult to narrow this down to just one, but I guess for me it would be this all original condition mahogany base floor model with a bronze oxidized case finish. This machine is a pristine example of an original condition machine. It has the large tape reel, nice front facing clock, and a set of candelabra lights. Also has all the original bill weights, supply and tool kits, two complete sets of keys, and small and large money bags for each drawer. This register is the complete package.

I bought this register from the late Sam Robins about 25 -30 years ago. Sam was selling it for a fellow collector, Peter Warns, from New York. All I have done to this machine is clean the case and wax the base each time I moved it, which was three times. Not wanting to risk damage in moving, I take the case off, remove the mechanism, and lighten the load. While apart I wash down the case and blow dry it off using the air compressor. The mahogany floor base is almost flawless and the wax helps preserves the finish. If I have to look at something, I want to look at something nice. Clean original condition machines should be kept in original condition
