Mr Navratil, My name is Richard Bruck and I am retired from NCR. I was with NCR for 38 years in Retail sales.
Last month, my wife and I were on vacation traveling in Montana. We happened to stop in a small store in Kalispell, Mt. when we walked in the door the first thing I noticed was an antique Register. Well, I immediately walked up to the register and began to really look it over. I began talking to one of the clerks regarding the register and she directed me to the owner.

I introduced myself to the owner and explained my background and she began to not only tell me all about the register, but showed me the unit in detail, and even rang up a transaction. She pulled out one of the drawers in the cabinet and showed me the original sales agreement glued to the drawer, identifying both the NCR salesman and the customer, date, serial number and manufacture date of 1908. The register is a model 500.
She explained that the register was sold to a local mercantile store and was their complete bookkeeping system for years.
The cabinet appears to be in excellent condition, with no damage or knicks. the register is also in excellent condition and as I said still functioned. The cabinet could use some wood/ furniture polish and the register needs to have the brass polished otherwise it seems to be fine.

I took several pictures of the unit, which I would be happy to forward to you.

I asked her if it was for sale and she said someone had approached her and offered her $ 10,000. She has no idea of it's value or worth and did not appear to be trying to sell it.

I told her that I could possibly help her determine the value and would contact some of my friends at NCR, who would be familiar with the register and it's value. I knew we had a couple of guys at NCR who collected and also restored old registers.
Well, unfortunately and sadly both men have passed.
After making additional contacts within the NCR retirement community, I was given the name of your club as a possible source of information and even potential interest.

I am just trying to help her determine the value, so if she decides to sell the register she will know what to ask. I am not involved in any other way, just trying to help.

Any assistance you or your club could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Regards,

Richard Bruck

Bill, Here are some of the photos. First one is a little decorative. Unit is in a women's sewing store and the gals used the register for showing some of their wares.
I will send some additional photos.
