Subject: Old cash reg.

Sirs, I have my dads old cash register.
It sat in a garage for over 15 years and is stuck with keys down and locked in position. I have had it apart and I have refinished most of it.
I would like to know its age and possibly its value.

Thanks for the email. You have a bronze NCR model 79. The S infront of the serial number indicates this register was factory rebuilt. In 1908 NCR under went a model number reclassification so your machine was built prior to 1908. Early model 79s had a scroll case pattern. The drawer front on your machine looks like it was out of a metal wood grain case 800 series register.

I don't give appraisals or technical info, so I will post your email on our web site and let other members give you an idea of value. The Cash Register Collector Club will be having our swap meet at the Kane County Fairground in St. Charles, Illinois on November 9th. You might want to bring the register on over and the boy's can give you an accurate estimate of value, and might help tell you how to get your machine functioning.
