Not that I have done it or would ever do it, but what do you think the scrap value (brass, steel, cast iron) value of a machine is? Let's say your average 332/333 machine without a top sign. Has anyone weighed the brass off of a machine? I bring this up because sometimes when I go look at machines from average non collecting sellers I get the line "why the scrap value alone is worth over $100". Just a nonsensical question but at today's scrap market values what do you think a 332/333 could be scrapped for?

The current scrap value of yellow brass is about $1.35/lb. and red brass is about $1.50/lb. I got $1.60/lb. for nickel plated brass ( yellow brass ) in October of this year. The cast iron is hardly worth hauling at $.08 or $.10 per lb. I don't have the weight of the brass of an NCR 332 but I would guess that you would be lucky to get $35.for the whole thing. To get scrap value you have to separate all of the steel and iron parts from the brass parts.

I knew it had to be something low like that. People must believe these things are solid brass sometimes. I do not argue with sellers though, I just give them my best price and they either accept it or not
