ncrebay created the topic: Question about 313 cash register
I Just bought a beautiful restored 313 National Cash Register and thrilled to have something as beautiful as this!!! The best restoration job I've ever seen!!! Anyway, I have a question,

Should I take the counters out of this restored 313 cash register or leave it in? What is the best thing to do.

Let me know!!!

Thank you
ncrebay

I restored this a couple months ago for one of my regular customers.
The counters should be working well. If not remove the totalizing counter and it will
never get jammed up.

It's working really well!! Question how do you remove the lid inside the register to remove the total counter?

remove the lid prop. Then remove the 2 screws in the dust cover, if there is a key lock knob remove it also. then using a large screw driver, put it under the bottom edge of the cover and pop it out.

Be carefull when prying on the lid to take it out, the glass is so thin it cracks really easily. Also I have found that most of the time the counter just needs a good cleaning. I take the counter and soak the whole thing in a coffee can of wd40, leaving it in there for a couple weeks, sometimes over a couple months depending on how bad its siezed or rusted up. They come out looking like brand new. Kroil oil is better, but also allot more expensive.
