HELLO, MY NICKNAME IS "DUTCH" AND I AM A NEW MEMBER FROM THE DALLAS AREA (GREENVILLE).
SOMEONE-A FRIEND?- MESSED WITH THE KEYS ON MY NCR356 , FACTORY NUMBER 619341W AND LOCKED IT UP WITH THE RED DISPLAY BLINDERS UP. I PROBABLY WORSENED THE SITUATION TRYING TO UNLOCK/CLEAR IT.
I HAVE ATTACHED PICTURES OF THE SITUATION AND AM LOOKING FOR EXPERT HELP.
IF ANYONE IS NEAR ME, I COULD BRING THE UNIT TO YOU, LEAVE IT FOR REPAIR AND PAY FOR THE FIX.
IT IS VERY HEAVY AND I WOULD HESITATE WITH SHIPPING. LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS. WE ARE SENTIMENTALLY ATTACHED TO IT: IT BELONGED TO MY WIFE'S GRANDMOTHER AT HER GENERAL STORE IN TEXARKANA.

  • Easy fix.
You need to apply a lot of pressure on the $7 key arm
You will not break it. These machines often dont like it
when key arms are pushed easily or slowly. Use more force next time.
You are 98% through the stroke, a few more clicks and it will release.
Most likely the main counter needs to be oiled as the pot metal
sticks to the steel parts because the pot metal swells a little bit.
Or you need to oil up the printer components,
    Common problem. Push down hard.
Dont know what you mean "cleared" it..
I hope you did not try to turn the reset key.
This key can not be turned while in mid-stroke.
Just push the stuck key arm down hard...

  • It might sound funny but give the $7 key arm a karate chop--
