I saw on Facebook that the next swap meet is September 17th.  Got any more details?  Is it in St Charles or Springfield?

    Thanks Bill,
Does anyone have any pictures of the last Swap Meet? I'm considering coming to Springfield and I'd like to see what a table looked like. Does anyone do the swap meet for all three days?

Here is information that Doug provided regarding the September swap meet space.
    • We are outside in the grass in booths 1108 and 1109
    • Each booth is 15' x30'.
    • There is no electricity. We bring chairs. You could bring a tent if you wanted.
    • The booth cost is determined by how many people show up and how much space they need. It will be at least $30or $35. At the last event we didn’t have very many so everyone paid $65 and we had enough room for everybody to park their cars in the booth. That will not happen this time as we already have more guys coming and we reduced our booth space purchase.
    • The booth rental includes a free pass to get your vehicle in to the event which otherwise cost $15 per vehicle to get in.
    • The tables are 8’ if you want to rent one from the show organizers. That cost $10 per table. You can bring your own if you like and have room. You can set your area up any way you want. We just see who wants what space and spread out next to each other.
    • The show is 3 days- Friday to Sunday and all costs are for the entire 3 days. The best days are Friday and Saturday morning.
    • The swap meet is Friday during the event.
    • The cost to get in is for you and anyone in your vehicle. Again, that is included with your booth rental. Once you are in, everyone can see the entire 2000 venders on 40 acres.
    • There is not internet connections as we are outside. We all just use our phones. There is WiFi at the hotel of course.
    • We are planning a dinner get together for Thursday evening with the club meeting Thursday night.
    • Some guys leave Friday evening and some Saturday mid day.
    • Hope that helps. It is hard to get a room. You may want to start trying now and cancel if you can’t make it. We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express at 204 Raydo Dr in Springfield and there are about 4 hotels on that same exchange. About 7 min from the show.
    Thanks Doug

Were sales made to non-members in Springfield? Is any advertising done by the club to bring people to the booth?

Yes and yes. Antique week gives us a free plug, and the event is frequently posted on the National Cash Register & Other Brands Facebook Page, and Antique Cash Register Collectors Facebook Page, and I mention the event in a half dozen Craigslist ad's in cities within a three hour driving range of Springfield. In any two year period we will see the same dozen members in attendance at least once. Some of the membership is too old to travel, some have other valid excuses not to attend, The members who attend regularly have an enjoyable time. Bottom line is the same dozen or so people carry the entire club.

In our previous two event at Springfield many new non members stopped by the booth showing interest in cash registers and buying items like top signs. Terry Speece of Dayton sold both registers at the show and after the show to local Dayton area residents.

    More answers from Doug,

We will all meet at 4:00 Thursday afternoon at the gate one entry. I will have everyone’s passes there.

We will drive to our booth. Whenever get there we will layout the spaces for everyone. The rental tables will be there at the booth.

Parking is not reserved. We park close to the booth. You can drive to the booth at the start and end of each day.

We leave the hotel about 6:15 to 6:30 Friday morning to go to the show for final setup. Not everyone gets ready at the same time.

    Public starts entering at 7.

I had a really really good time at this event. I did find good homes for many of the items that I brought. In the end, the sales more than paid for this vacation.
This club is really a fraternity. Through this common interest I got to know and really like each of the members.
In addition to the serious collectors of this club, I witnessed and talked to hundreds of people truly interested in the hobby of collecting cash registers. That was important to me because discussing this hobby to acquaintances usually ends with weird looks. This show allowed me to talk of my hobby and collection to a mostly responsive audience for two days.

Again, thanks to all who planned and conducted the meeting and swap meet. I do recomend this event to any of the club members.
