  • What do you consider "Priced Fairly" to be? I believe many of the long time serious cash register collectors would be interested in knowing the current price evaluation in today's market.

  • I'd like to find one ( nickel plated) in great condition for $200.00. Not really sure what one is worth.

  • So would I like to fine a nice nickel one in great condition for $200.00. I would even be happy to buy one at $250.00, plus I would even pay for the shipping.

Point is Cash Register Collecting is an EXPENSIVE hobby. My observation is that new collector's come into our hobby with an enormous sense of entitlement, and expect to buy what they need at the price they want to pay. Great if you can do it. Long time collector's are not out to screw anyone, they just want a fair market price for what they sell. In most cases our members stepped up to the plate and bought, cleaned, and stored registers and register parts for decades, and are entitled to fair market value. You contacted me several months ago for a Michigan 7 top sign. Back then I had two available, now only one. You are NOT the first NOR the last newbie to come in expecting members to meet your demands. I also noticed you still have not bought a sign at your desired price. Again, like I did several months ago, I suggest you purchase a new reproduction top sign that will be closer to the price you are willing to pay for an original.

At our last swap meet a collector that set up next to me had a Michigan 7 top sign. A fellow made him a ridiculously low offer, don't know who the fellow was, but the seller told him to set it down and move on. The seller did sell a dozen other top signs, personalized lid plates and etc. so his pricing wasn't out of line what market value is.

When people come to my house looking to buy and tell me they like what I'm selling but can't afford it, I tell them to look at what they are driving and look at what is parked in my garage. If I can afford it, you can afford it, or you shouldn't be out looking to buy. 90% of the parts on a cash register are parts nobody needs. The other 10% of the parts that are missing are the 10% everyone needs, thus supply and demand dictates the price. A good deal cash register missing stuff does not usually turn out to be a good deal.

More power to you if you can buy what you want at the low price you are willing to pay.

I have over 100 original top signs mounted on display boards plus signs on every machine I own. Thus, I have a fairly good idea of the valuation of top signs. I wish you the best of luck in your quest to buy at your price.
