Harry Kloda was the 2 term past president of the club. He took the club through a pretty tough time with the money problems stemming from the web page & other thing. He did a fine job but got criticized from others without any consideration of the real facts.
Mike Zitowsky has always worked to publicize the club via Antique weekly & others.
Both were collecting cash register & did buy & sell items which all of us do but as usual some people were jealous. If someone called me "Zit" all the time & he became president & continued to denigrate me, I would resign also.
Try to be gracious.
What have you done lately that really makes a difference?
Dick

Hi Dick, thanks for posting. I will try to answer your questions. Yes, Harry was a two term president of the CRCC and when he took over the club was well funded. Yes there were some financial troubles but under his tenure as president we never saw financial reports, and when questioned about finances we were told how many members we had in the club. The two year up grade of the web site took a substantial amount of funds. Plus, Harry gave the web site provider free range to do what he wanted with the site and charge us accordingly. When Harry took over as president the club was well funded, when he left the bank account had eroded. The past president also missed the last three meetings, and a few other in his term of office. If you were present at any meetings in recent years you would have noticed his absence.

Yes, I agree with you that Mike Zitowsky always worked to publicize the Club via Antique weekly and other publications. But, Mike also worked harder at promoting himself in these ad's, and had the CRCC send fruit baskets to the girls doing the PR. I too contacted these publications, but first offered the members of the club to do the PR so they could use their name and contact info for any potential leads. Nobody took me up on the offer. No fruit baskets will be sent out.

I don't think anybody was jealous of Harry and Mike for buying and selling registers. I am of the opinion that some people were disappointed that neither shared any leads that came to them in their years as President and Vice President. I have posted every lead that was directed to me as President. Some members asked how come the two former club leaders never posted anything. Perhaps nothing came thru. I have bought nothing thru any of these leads.

You felt referring to Mike by the last three letters of his last name was degrading. I don't. People call me NAV all the time. My identifier on this CRCC web site is NAV. Where I live it is NOT uncommon for people with multi syllable last names to be called by the first three or four letters. Some examples: my cousin's last name is Mlckovsky. People call him Mack. A co workers last name was Katynsky, people called him Kat. Another co worker's last name was Lucaschewski, and people called him Luke. I served on council with a guy named Mackcoviak, people called him Big Mack. Another guy's last name was Wondolowski, people called him Wondo, and a local character in the neighborhood's last name is Dombroski, and he is called Dombo. Nothing personal, common place for people with multi syllable last names. Now I realize you live in the very liberal Washington D.C./Maryland area so you might be more sensitive and reading more into the three letter shorten version of the name then is needed.

Now you ask what I have done lately and I will be glad to tell you. Six months ago I became CRCC President because nobody else wanted the job. I was a City Councilman for twenty years and never had an election without having several opponents each election, so this was no real challenge or accomplishment. First thing I did was make a pledge for transparency, and asked the treasurer to make a financial report each meeting and in the newsletter. This should have been done all along but it was not. I then looked into changing the web site provider to one more affordable. After a discussion with the provider, they realized a blank check was no longer going to be given to them, and all seems to be working out fine.

At the April meeting I suggested a Facebook Page and our new VP took charge and created a Facebook Page that is gaining in popularity. I contacted the Coin Op Club people to see if our members could tag along with them on the tour of Jasper's Victorian Mansion on Thursday, November 9th, and some members will be going along. I renegotiated the space at the Kane County Fairgrounds for the Swap Meet. This was originally done by John Arito with President Harry taking all the credit, when in reality it was John who came up with the idea and did all the work, and let the president take the credit. John's efforts have made this easy for all future swap meets.

I renegotiated the contract at the Quality Inn for the CRCC members to have a lower rate, and if the online rate is lower than the CRCC rate, our members will be given the lower of the two. Also discovered that our last president negotiated FREE rooms for himself. This is still in effect, and I will donate the money in a check at the meeting to the club treasury. I don't want a freebie.

Also, I asked the web master to post the 50 Brass Cash Register at the Showtime Auction on our CRCC web site even though the owner of those registers was no longer a club member. I felt it was important that members be given the opportunity to compete for them. Strange as it might sound, the auctioneer said the owner wanted his name kept a secret, but it didn't take long for everyone to figure out who the owner was. Just standard operating procedure gamesmanship for the register owner.

I want to make a difference by creating interest again in brass cash register collecting and restoring. The good old boy network of collecting for profit and taking all you can get is slowly starting to fade away. I try to routinely post. Our past president took a vow of silence and hardly ever posted in his eight years as president and VP. I am always encouraging other members to post and send in articles for the newsletter. I will be planning a summer club event, like we use to have, before the the last eight years of leadership did away with it. I am still restoring cash registers. Our last two presidents and vice president combined had never restored a register, thus they had a different perspective of the hobby than you and I have.

Gracious NAV

All I can say is I think the club is moving in a positive direction and hope we get more members and more particapation from the members we have. This is our club and we should try to make it the best club it can be. Thank you to every member that takes time to read this short and sweet message. MJN

You asked "What perspective is that exactly????" It is the particular way they view the hobby, not as a collector or restorer who collects for the love of collecting, but the harsh attitude of a Carnival Barker, doing and saying what ever it takes to make a few bucks regardless of the consequences.

John,

Are you behind him enough to write and edit the newsletter?
